Independent & Selective COMMANDER SHEPARD from Bioware's Mass Effect Trilogy. This blog incorporates the INDOCTRINATION THEORY among other canon divergent theories.
Yo, my name is jager and I run this lil shithole. I'm 22 as of 01/30/2016 and I'm almost always changing something about this theme. I live in a shit hole town in the CMT time zone and generally don't do much.
I do code my themes myself so I would appreciate it if you didn't steal anything. If you have any questions, feel free to come to my inbox off anon (or shoot me an IM if we're mutuals) and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have! If I can't answer it, I'll probably know someone who can.
I'm not really a busy person but I have bipolar II with rapid cycling and for those of you who don't know, I tend to have very up (manic) phases in which my mood is above the normal spectrum, and very down (depressive) phases in which my mood is below the normal spectrum. The catch is I can complete a cycle in as little as a few hours. I only ask that you be patient with me if I don't answer messages/IMs/threads etc.
Sometimes I get in moods where I post a lot of crack or inspiration posts, if this is something that bothers you, then you probably shouldn't follow me.
I have been roleplaying since 2008 and started on tumblr in 2012, but that does not mean I automatically get everything right the first time. Respect is all I ask, and I will give it in return.
Private & Selective
I reserve the right to follow / unfollow you as I see fit. Please do not come into my ask box and as why I've unfollowed you.
If you have ever sent anon hate do not follow me. If I get wind that you've been sending anon hate, I will unfollow you without notice. I do not tolerate drama, so don't involve me in it.
I will roleplay with mutuals only for the sake of my sanity. I also have a mumu blog, and several single muse oc blogs. And I'm a very picky writer to begin with.
I am crossover & OC friendly, though! Check out my verses page for more information.
I do not practice reblog karma. If you do, that's fine. Your blog, your choice. Please do not always expect me to send you a meme if I reblog one from you especially if it's shippy and we have not interacted yet. Alternatively, if we interact I will almost always send you memes unless I feel they don't fit our characters' dynamic.
Shipping
I really enjoy shipping. Probably more than most, but let me be clear: I SHIP SHEPARD WITH CHEMISTRY and like to build up to something more substantial rather than to just plot something quick and dirty over a few messages and call it a day.
Also, other than romantic ships, I also enjoy giving her platonic connections. BROTPS & NOTPS are welcome and highly encouraged!
I am okay with your character having feelings for mine even if mine doesn't have feelings for yours. Though it may be vice versa. IF MY CHARACTER HAS FEELINGS FOR YOURS, that doesn't necessarily constitue a ship. Unrequited things are fun too.
Out of preference I will write but not ship with other Shepards. It's a little too meta for me.
Multiverse
Every interaction on this blog takes place in different verses unless stated otherwise. The verse tags as more so that I know the timeline of the reply and not that everyone is interacting all together unless it's explicitly stated!
I'm always willing to add another verse should we need to in the midst of plotting something out. I do not mind accomodating your character.
Tags & Triggers
Personally, I would appreciate if food, nsfw, & social justice / current events could be tagged as I have those tags black listed. But to clear this up, mentioning food in a para doesn't trigger me only photographs of food bother me. If you have any question about what I consider NSFW, check out this post.
I always try to remember to tag general things such as nsfw, blood, and food, but if you need something specific tagged please just shoot me a message and I'll start immediately.
Exclusivity
I typically do not go straight up exclusive. I practice ship exclusivity in that I will only ship with one canon portrayal of a muse (unless a PC and then I will ship with one male and one female) as to avoid confusion.
I will, however take mains. These blogs will have priority over duplicates as I am either in an in-depth plot with them, enjoy writing with them, and often times both.
My current mains are:
I enjoy formatting but do not require you do it in return. It's for my personal enjoyment. I also typically prefer longer, plotted interactions in favor of one-liners and am more likely to have bias in favor of your thread if we chat out of character.
Please do not pressure me for replies. Not only do I run other blogs, but I also have a life outside of roleplay that consists of a full time job and personal issues.
I do not care if you match length or not. A lot of times I'll ramble in a starter or reply and if you can't write as much that's okay. And I may not always match your length, but I will always give you content to reply to. Please be respectful of my muse.
Have proper roleplay etiquette, such as grammar (I understand English is not everyone's first language, I'm not super orney about this), cutting posts, no godmodding / metagaming, etc. I'm sure you know the drill by now.
I really enjoy plotting things out!!! But I don't mind random starters either. Even if I didn't like your starter call or specifically ask you for one, if your muse hits, throw 'em at me. Feel free to even send memes that we can turn into threads! But please note, if you plan on turning my meme response into a thread, I'd prefer you repost as a text post rather than just commenting on the ask post.

COLONIST
Before Raleigh's first birthday, her mother and father picked up and moved to the Attican Traverse to a small human colony called Mindoir. There they settled down as meager farmers and lived their life happily, even giving birth a few years later to a healthy baby boy.
When Raleigh was only sixteen the colony was attacked by Batarian slavers and many of the colonists died. Shepard luckily escaped with only a few broken bones. She enlisted in the Alliance a few years later.
For more information please see THIS POST.
SOLE SURVIVOR
Shortly after being promoted Shepard's first task was to investigate the radio silence of a newly established colony on Akuze. Preliminary findings upon arrival were baffling when the Alliance Marine unit found the intact settlement with no survivors. Though the data was troubling, the team was forced to camp for the night, only to be set upon by Thresher Maws. Unprepared, the unit was slaughted and Shepard was the only marine to make it back to the landing zone.

drives/motivations Shepard's primary motivation is for everyone to survive, everyone else comes first. She isn't overly self-sacrificing but she will save her crew before she saves herself. habits
speech typically, Shepard speaks clearly and consisely and her militaristic lifestyle has eliminated any semblance of purple prose that was ever present in her speech patterns. when she's nervous, she doesn't speak as often, mulling her words over and over and over in her head until they sound perfect. when she's upset, shepard will overshare more often than not, and if taken advantage of in this state, she'll avoid all personal conversation for some time.
accent more so the lack of an accent. the only regionally distinguishable features on Shepard are her Asian appearance.
tone of voice sharp, clear, occasionally edgy.
quirks going completely still, rubbing her face, doing full routine stretches (especially after she's been sitting down a while), tapping her fingers on the table top, pulling at her hair or pushing her hands back through it, fidgeting (especially while trying to get comfortable), humming absentmindedly
hobbies model ships, exercise, traveling (that isn't because of the systems alliance), amateur woodworking, reading

nervous tics rigid formaility, completely ignoring the issue at hand, delegating if she can
swearing? yes, habitually in front of almost anyone except children and her superiors.
exercise habits on shore leave, shepard will go for a 10 km run and do a full exercise regimen four days a week. when she's on the normandy, she will run 5 km on the treadmill every day and a full exercise regimen five days a week.
clothing style when's she on shore leave, Shepard can typically be found in some version of a t-shirt and jeans, always accompanied by her father's old leather jacket. she wears little to no jewelry on a regular basis. if she gets dressed up, she almost always has to seek someone else out to know what to wear.
allergies typically non-fatal, shepard has a shellfish allergy and tends to stay away from seafood in general.
body temperature when she's off duty, despite having excellent circulation, shepard stays cold. around the normandy she's downright freezing unless it's immediately after a mission.
diet carnivore. shepard has to keep up a diet of high protien to maintain her muscle mass, and make sure she's keeping a high carbohydrate intake so that she doesn't get burnt out in the middle of a mission.
physical ailments none but there are signs of early onset arthritis

And Cerberus had put all their money on Shepard being just the gal to save the galaxy--again.

me:3 The day everyone had dreaded had arrived and Shepard, no longer affliated with Cerberus, wasn't really surprised when it hit. Earth was taken, so was Palaven. But it wasn't just the humans and turians that were affected. The Reapers invaded the Milky Way quicker than anyone had time to prepare for. So after reluctantly leaving Anderson on Earth, Shepard was back in space, this time putting her money where her mouth was instead of where her aim was. The game of politics was the only thing that would save Anderson now.

dragon ageBorn to mere farmers in a small village just outside the port city of Jader, Raleigh and her family lead a quiet existence. They woke up each morning with she and her father going out towards the Frostback Mountains to hunt game to sell and eat while her mother worked around the house. When Satoshi was old enough, he began to help their mother while Raleigh continued to go out with their father. Their farm wasn’t big by any means; it had enough crops for them to eat and sell a few of the surplus to passing traders in and out of Jader, some livestock for things like milk and wool. It was enough to live on, which is what really mattered. For years, the Shepard’s continued on with a routine. Their mother passing fantastic stories of the Evanuris to Satoshi and Raleigh while their father continue to encourage her to practice with her bow and Satoshi began to take up sword play ( mostly for defending himself ).
When she was fifteen, a stray pack of darkspawn attacked the village, razing it to the ground. She and her father had been out hunting that morning and when they approached close, he had Raleigh climb a tree and shoot any that she could from up there. When he didn’t return and the darkspawn left, she rushed into the village to find that no one had made it. With a heavy heart and empty pockets, she set out to Val Royeaux to enlist in the Orlesian military since the only thing she could offer at that point would be her archery. Not to mention there wasn’t anything tying her down at this point. To survive until enlistment, she resorted to slight of hand, slipping food and money into her own pockets from those who would not miss it. And when she was sixteen, she was officially a soldier.
After she spent years serving the military diligently she was recruited into the Wardens which she damn near didn’t survive joining their ranks. She spent a small amount of time at Adamant before she was moved to the Anderfels for further training. It was there she heard the news of Ostagar, and immediately she and other Wardens were sent to aid Ferelden. Fortunately, they arrived at Denerim just in time for the Landsmeet.
After the Blight, Shepard continued to give herself to the cause. Traveling around Southern Thedas to seal off any openings to the Deep Roads and taking care of any Darkspawn that may have been lingering on the edge of civilization.
With the rise of status and power within the Wardens, Shepard eventually returned to Weisshaupt to navigate the politics within the Order and is not seen in Thedas until the Inquisition lays siege upon Adamant Fortress.

falloutDecorated war hero Raleigh Shepard lives a life just like anyone else in Tranquility Lane. Married to her long time best friend with their two wonderful kids, and the world is at peace. What more could anyone want?
Realism, probably. At first, the nagging in the back of Shepard's mind about how something wasn't right were annoying and she could ignore them. But the long the charade went on the more she knew that something was wrong. She didn't say anything to her husband for a long time, deciding that her paranoia was unjustified and while he would be supportive and help her work through things, she didn't want to bother him. But the longer it went on the louder the voice got in the back of her head. When she finally did bring it up to Kaidan, he brushed it off, told Shepard that she was probably just stressed and needed time off work and that's when she knew it was all a lie.
She grew increasingly more paranoid as time went on, unsure who was real and who was a generated program. The more paranoia she harbored the more her husband seemed to dissuade it and around the fifth time he told her she was just stressed and needed a day off from work instead of investigating the issue with her like the real Kaidan would have, a pit of dread began to build in the pit of her stomach.
More than anything in the world, Shepard wanted her instincts to be wrong for once. She wanted him to be alive and she wanted to go back to their home.
What she got was a haze coming down over her eyes and her senses coming back to life. The click of a pressurized release, the sudden warmth of coming out of cryogenic stasis, and the murmur of panicked voices as people began to relized what Tranquility Lane really was. Shepard had known. She knew and instead of rolling out of the lounge chair, she kept her hands folded while everyone else talked to the person who'd rescued them from stasis and when no one else was watching, she disappeared from the vault.
Following the events that transpired at Vault 112, Shepard began self medicating to keep the nightmares and hallucinations at bay. The culture shock of outside the vault compared to what it had been in Tranquility Lane was stark, and most days she didn't want to deal with it, but she spent most of her time wandering, looking for the vault that Kaidan could have been in. Eventually she found herself in the Commonwealth in search of the Institute, or someone that could help her find archives of records that might indicate where he could be.

❛ Warden Commander Clarel has exceptionally bad taste in allies, that’s what. ❜ Any and all previous attempts to reach out to the Grey Wardens had been rebuffed, though with war and demons bearing down on all of them, many among the Order were finally understanding the scope of their mistakes and laying down their arms. The thought of another doing the same or, even better, lending aid to the Inquisition’s forces, was more than enough incentive to pause for a moment to - hastily - clarify the source of her frustrations.
❛ The Wardens have been deceived ; they all started to hear the Calling at the same time and, in their panic, they turned to a dangerous Tevinter magister for aid. He suggested an army of demons to invade and clear the deep roads but, what Clarel doesn’t know is that there is a dark hand behind all of this —— one that will take that demon army from her and use it to conquer half of Thedas. ❜
SHEPARD HAD ALSO FELT THE BEGINNINGS of the Calling when she crossed the Orlesian border from the Anderfels but paid little attention to it as she had bigger fish to fry, so to speak. ❛ I don’t gather anyone is too keen on the Tevinter magister she’s taken as an adviser. I will say, however, that he has put on a good show for those BLINDLY following Clarel’s orders. ❜ Raleigh had never really been one for following the herd, one of the many reasons she’d been singled out of the Orleasian army to be recruited into the Wardens, but it also was alarmingly telling about the state of the Orlesian wardens as a whole, and as Clarel’s second, it didn’t sit right with her that she’d do this to their people.
She wasn’t all that SURPRISED to hear that there was an ulterior motive for the Tevene’s help, though it was news to her that it was meant to conquer Thedas. ❛ If I may, Inquisitor, I’d like to offer you my help. While I don’t enjoy slaying my own brothers and sisters, maybe there are some to yet be swayed against the Magister. ❜
❛ ——– i’m dead serious, dude !i’m telling you, he looks just like an earth raccoon. if earth raccoons, um… talked and smelled like a month old garbage compactor full of rotten fruit. ❜ his choice of words had been fallible in his explanation. he orders another drink after her brief interjection. ❛ don’t get me wrong, he’s a great friend and all, but honestly ? he’s just plain rude… and violent. i actually forgot where i was going with this story, so we’ll just go with the bottom line here being, he ain’t exactly the kind you wanna befriend. his name’s rocket raccoon, by the way. ❜
HER EYES NARROWED, obviously dubious of the statement that there was a raccoon, of all animals, that was walking and talking and might try to KICK HER ASS if she looked at it the wrong way. Shit just didn’t add up. ❛ Exactly what kind of raccoon do I want to befriend? ❜ She hoped the look on her face accurately conveyed her BEWILDERMENT, because this was almost too crazy to make up. But if there was one thing she learned from space it was that it was weird. Real fuckin’ weird.
PEOPLE AREforward, here, in Goodneighbor— for the most part. A veritable realm of hedonists; if people feel so inclined to slit throats, they’re hardly coy about it. He supposes he’s found himself an exception to the consensus. There’s a lie in his geniality, an undercurrent of ulterior motives. Not quite sinister, but hardly innocent. The word holds very little weight, these days.
She’s guarded. Owen understands, finds no fault in necessary paranoia. He had known she would be. The sheer physicality of his stature isn’t common in this little corner of the wasteland; Boston’s radiation renders metabolism and growth hormones defective. Owen’s been compared to a Yao Guai in people’s clothes. It’s a hindrance as much as it is a boon. His size discourages confrontation, makes people nervous. Consequently, the likelihood of appearing harmless, blending in, just isn’t possible.
Owen relies on his own arguable charisma. Crooked grin, sly hands, deep, personable voice. He is friendly, now, and it’s easier when it’s honest. Violence isn’t on his agenda this evening. The Mister Handy arrives with a long bottle of crystal-clear liquor, drops it heavily onto the countertop between them, and leaves them to pour the drink into the tumblers themselves. He doesn’t seem to notice Whitechapel Charile, keeps his eyes curiously on Raleigh. Reaches for the bottle, and pours moonshine into their glasses.
“You’re new around here.” It isn’t a question, but it is conversational. He means to learn more about the woman he’s been hired to kill. Owen takes his glass, and holds it up to him, turns it in his palm to watch the moonshine swirl and shine. “Got a name?”
RALEIGH’S TIME IN GOODNEIGHBOR was often spent divided between the Memory Den and the Third Rail Bar. But she was anything but social, but most of the crooks and criminals in Goodneighbor didn’t mind that she kept to herself. They didn’t bother her and she didn’t bother them. As of right now it was fairly MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL. Every once in a while she got a drunk guy begging to get his teeth knocked in, but it wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle on her own.
The man buying her a drink was a different story. The last time she’d seen a smile that inviting was before the bombs dropped, and the only different between then and now was that it could be DEADLY. There was malevolence every time she turned around in the Commonwealth be it in the form of scammers trying to convince her that caps were being phased out ( even though she hadn’t really gotten used to the idea of BOTTLECAPS for currency as opposed to cold hard cash ), a gun pointed in her face, or a deathclaw charging across the hills towards her. It was really all she had just to s u r v i v e to put her head down on a pillow each night. She deserved a drink at the Third Rail at the end of the day, even with all the shit Whitechapel Charlie spewed out while he was pouring it.
She debated, even if only for a moment, whether she’d make an impression by refusing to offer up her name. She’d done it before, thought something told her that he’d give her a run for her money if she met him in a dark alley and she didn’t really WANT to know who the winner would be. ❛ Shepard, ❜ she said after a moment. ❛ Just call me Shepard. ❜ When she got married she opted not to change her last name. It had just felt a little too Suzy Homemaker to her and Kaidan had been okay with that. Now she wished she’d gone through and changed it. ❛ What about you? Can’t just buy a lady a drink and not give her your name. ❜
RALEIGH PAUSED, her footstep echoing in the void louder than she thought possible. She wasn’t entirely sure what this realm was or what it might MEAN for her in the long run, but she knew that the Outsider was feared. That his name was SLANDERED across Dunwall and that it could only spell trouble that he wanted anything to do with her. She had intended to W A L K A W A Y, to wake up from whatever nightmare was plaguing her and to never mention it in the light of day. But the statement struck her and wormed its way into the pit of her belly were it turned over like a PARASITE wreaking havoc in her gut. It was as terrifying as it was foreign, and she didn’t know if she wanted to be a part of it at all.
